Joliet, IL – Authorities in Joliet have arrested two men allegedly connected to a 2022 shooting that left a teenager dead and another wounded, marking a significant development in a nearly three-year-old homicide investigation.

According to a statement released by the Joliet Police Department on Thursday, Angel Magana, 20, of Joliet, was arrested during a traffic stop on July 24 near Cherry Hill Road and Ellis Road. Magana was allegedly taken into custody without incident and transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility, where he faces three counts of First Degree Murder, Attempted First Degree Murder, and Aggravated Battery.

Police say a second suspect, Latrell Woodall, 20, also of Joliet, was already in custody on unrelated charges. Woodall was served an arrest warrant at the Will County Adult Detention Facility for the same charges in connection to the September 5, 2022, shooting in the 1800 block of McDonough Street. According to authorities, both Magana and Woodall were identified as suspects during the continued investigation into the incident, which allegedly involved the shooting death of a 16-year-old male and the nonfatal shooting of a 13-year-old boy.

The Joliet Police Department credited its detectives and tactical officers for their work in making the arrests. “The arrest of these additional suspects is a major step forward in our department’s pursuit of securing justice for those affected by violent crimes,” the statement read.
