Joliet, IL – Drivers on Interstate 80 should expect overnight delays this week as construction continues at the Larkin Avenue interchange in Joliet. Lane closures on eastbound I-80 begin tonight, Wednesday, Sept. 18, at 8 p.m.

According to the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), at least one eastbound lane between Houbolt Road and Larkin Avenue will remain open during the overnight work. By 5 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, weather permitting, the new southbound Larkin Avenue ramp to eastbound I-80 is expected to reopen, along with the temporary lane closures.

The westbound I-80 exit to southbound Larkin Avenue, however, will remain closed until Thursday, Oct. 3. In addition, Larkin Avenue continues to operate with only one lane open in each direction, which may add to congestion during peak travel times.

The interchange upgrade is part of a larger I-80 reconstruction project designed to improve safety and reduce long-term traffic delays. IDOT has announced that the full interchange completion is scheduled for fall 2025.

Motorists are encouraged to allow extra travel time, use caution in work zones, and consider alternate routes when possible.
