Joliet, IL – Two people were found dead and a man injured after an early Sunday morning shooting in Joliet, according to police. The incident unfolded around 6:55 a.m. on January 25, 2026, after multiple 911 calls reported gunfire near Cleveland Avenue and Dillman Avenue.

According to the Joliet Police Department, officers arrived at a residence on Gamsay Avenue, where they located a 29-year-old man suffering from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the ankle. Officers then discovered a 36-year-old woman and a 4-year-old girl unresponsive in the backyard with gunshot wounds.

During a search of the residence, officers found an 8-year-old child with special needs unharmed in a bedroom. The child was transported to St. Joseph Medical Center as a precaution. Investigators believe the female victim was the mother of both children.

Police recovered a firearm and shell casings believed to match it. The Will County Coroner’s Office pronounced both victims dead at the scene and will determine the official cause of death.

The injured man was transported to Silver Cross Hospital and later transferred to Loyola Medical Center in Maywood under police guard. His injuries were described as non-life-threatening.
