According to the Joliet Police Department, officers responded at 12:47 p.m. Friday to the Cricket Wireless store at 425 Collins Street after a robbery was reported. An employee told officers that an unknown male allegedly entered the store with one hand concealed under his jacket, which the employee believed indicated a weapon.
Police said the suspect allegedly demanded money from the register before fleeing the area on foot. More than $1,000 in cash was reported stolen. No injuries were reported during the incident.
The suspect is described as a male, approximately 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 7 inches tall, with a skinny build and short brown curly hair. He was last seen wearing a gray and black Adidas hoodie, black jogger pants, blue tennis shoes, black sunglasses, and a black neck gaiter used to conceal his face.
Responding officers conducted a canvas of the surrounding area in an effort to gather additional information or evidence, police said.
Detectives are continuing to investigate and are seeking home surveillance footage from residents near Collins Street and north of Cass Street between 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. on Friday.
