Joliet, IL – Nearly 400 elementary school students in Joliet will receive brand-new winter coats this Friday, November 7, as part of Nicor Gas’s community initiative to help families stay warm this winter.
According to Nicor Gas, volunteers will distribute the coats from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at T.E. Culbertson Elementary School, 1521 E. Washington St. in Joliet. The company partnered with Operation Warm, a nonprofit dedicated to providing new winter coats to children in need.
In addition to the coat distribution, Nicor Gas representatives will provide families with information about available resources, including bill payment assistance and energy-saving programs.
Company officials said the effort is part of a broader commitment to serve Illinois families facing economic hardship. More than 1.5 million Illinois residents live at or below the poverty line, making access to essentials like heat and clothing increasingly critical as winter approaches.
This year, Nicor Gas plans to donate approximately 1,600 coats across northern Illinois communities, focusing on helping children in underserved areas. The annual initiative aims to support families not only with basic necessities but also with pathways to long-term stability and energy affordability.
