Joliet, IL – The Illinois Department of Transportation has released a detailed schedule for the upcoming closures on Interstate 80, as part of the Briggs Street bridge replacement in Will County.
The closures, affecting both eastbound and westbound lanes, will occur over several nights, starting Thursday, Feb. 1.
On Thursday, Feb. 1, starting at 9 p.m., eastbound I-80 will be reduced to one lane near Briggs Street, with a full closure between 1 and 5 a.m. Friday. Eastbound motorists will be detoured off I-80 at Briggs Street and rerouted back onto the interstate via the Briggs Street entrance ramp. Similar closures and detours are planned for Monday, Feb. 5 and Tuesday, Feb. 6 for eastbound traffic, and for Tuesday, Feb. 6 and Wednesday, Feb. 7 for westbound traffic. Each night, the lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. the following day.
This construction effort is part of a broader initiative to enhance road safety and infrastructure in the Joliet area. Commuters are advised to plan for delays and consider alternative routes during these times.
