Joliet, IL – A Joliet Central High School teacher is set to receive one of Illinois State University’s top honors for history educators later this fall.

According to Illinois State University, Erica Senffner, a history teacher at Joliet Central, has been selected as the 2025 recipient of the Frederick D. Drake History Teacher Alumni Award. The award recognizes alumni who demonstrate outstanding teaching and contributions to history education.

Senffner, a graduate of ISU’s History Department, will be honored during the university’s Homecoming and Alumni Day celebrations on Friday, October 17, 2025. As part of the recognition, she will attend an alumni reception, a luncheon for university-wide award recipients, and speak with current history majors about her career path and classroom experiences.

“Since graduating from ISU, you have had an auspicious academic and professional career,” said Ross A. Kennedy, professor and chair of ISU’s History Department. “Thus, the Drake Award … is fitting recognition of your accomplishments and a sign of our pride in having your name associated with our program.”

Senffner’s recognition highlights her long-standing dedication to history education and her impact on both students and the broader academic community.
