Johnston County, NC – State Highway Patrol investigators are asking for the public’s help after a fatal hit-and-run crash involving a flatbed truck on Live Oak Church Road near Carmil Drive. The incident happened at approximately 5:20 p.m. on Oct. 29, according to officials.

An unidentified flatbed truck carrying a water tank, similar to a septic tank truck, was traveling south on Live Oak Church Road when it allegedly disregarded a stop signal from traffic control personnel. Crews were halting traffic due to low-hanging power lines when the truck continued through the area.

According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the truck became entangled with one of the low-hanging wires. The wire struck a repair technician working nearby, causing the worker to fall and suffer fatal injuries.

Troopers said the driver did not stop and continued south on Live Oak Church Road after the incident. Authorities are seeking information on the vehicle and driver.

Anyone with knowledge of the crash or the suspect truck is urged to contact the State Highway Patrol at 919-934-2186.
