Johnson County, AR: Man Arrested After Deadly Shooting in Coal Hill City Park

Coal Hill, AR – Arkansas State Police and the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Tuesday afternoon, November 11, at Coal Hill City Park, resulting in one man’s death and another’s arrest.

According to the Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division, officers from the Coal Hill Police Department discovered Kenneth E. Michaels, 68, of Clarksville, deceased around 3:30 p.m.

Authorities say Colton Contant, 25, of Coal Hill, was identified as the suspected shooter and was seen fleeing the area shortly after the incident. Around 4 p.m., Contant was taken into custody without incident by Coal Hill Police, Johnson County deputies, and Arkansas State Police.

He was transported to the Johnson County Detention Center, where he was booked on a charge of First-Degree Murder.

Investigators are continuing to gather evidence and interview witnesses as they work to determine what led to the shooting. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
