Beaumont, TX – A flash flood warning remains in effect until 4:45 p.m. Monday for northeastern Jefferson County and southwestern Orange County as heavy thunderstorms sweep through Southeast Texas.
According to the National Weather Service in Lake Charles, Doppler radar indicated storms producing between 1 and 3 inches of rain, with additional rainfall expected. Officials warn that flash flooding is ongoing or could begin at any time, posing a life-threatening risk in the affected areas.
The warning includes Beaumont, Port Arthur, Nederland, Groves, Port Neches, Bridge City, Central Gardens, and the Southeast Texas Regional Airport. Flooding of creeks, streams, urban neighborhoods, major highways, streets, and underpasses is expected.
The NWS cautions drivers and residents to avoid flood-prone areas. “Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads,” officials said, emphasizing that most flood-related deaths occur in vehicles.
The flash flood damage threat has been classified as considerable, meaning widespread, dangerous flooding could impact communities in the path of these storms. Residents are urged to monitor local updates and use extreme caution when traveling this afternoon.
This warning will remain active until 4:45 p.m. Monday, September 22.
