Watertown, NY – A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Jefferson and Lewis counties from 1 a.m. Sunday through 7 a.m. Monday, with a mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain expected to create slick travel conditions across northern New York.
According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, ice accumulations around one-tenth of an inch are possible—greatest across northern Jefferson County—along with up to 2 inches of snow.
The wintry mix will begin overnight Saturday into early Sunday, continuing throughout the day before tapering off Monday morning. Forecasters warn that bridges, overpasses, and untreated roads could quickly become slick and hazardous, especially during the Monday morning commute.
Residents are urged to slow down, allow extra travel time, and use caution on stairs, sidewalks, and driveways, which may also become icy.
