Jeffersonville, IN – A Jeffersonville man was arrested Saturday after allegedly leading Indiana State Police troopers on a brief but dangerous pursuit through city streets before a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver brought the chase to an end.
According to Indiana State Police Sellersburg Post, the incident unfolded shortly after midnight Saturday when Trooper Carson Thomas attempted to stop a silver Dodge Ram pickup for multiple traffic violations near 10th Street and Mechanics Street. Police said the driver allegedly crossed the center line and swerved abruptly to avoid oncoming traffic, while also reportedly traveling 42 mph in a 35 mph zone.
Authorities said the driver initially stopped at a red light at 10th and Spring streets but then allegedly accelerated, fleeing southbound toward the Interstate 65 entrance ramp. During the pursuit, troopers executed a PIT maneuver, causing the truck to spin off the roadway. Police allege the driver, identified as 33-year-old Victor Diaz Jr. of Jeffersonville, regained control and continued driving the wrong way before re-entering traffic, nearly striking multiple vehicles, including a responding Jeffersonville Police unit.
The pursuit continued until a second PIT maneuver was conducted near Court Avenue, where troopers successfully stopped the vehicle and took Diaz into custody.
Following the arrest, troopers initiated an operating while intoxicated investigation. Diaz was transported to Norton Clark Hospital for evaluation before being booked into the Clark County Jail.
He faces several preliminary charges, including resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, criminal recklessness with a vehicle, operating while intoxicated—endangerment, criminal mischief, and reckless driving. Officials said the allegations remain under investigation, and Diaz is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
