Jefferson County, IL – A Saturday morning traffic stop in rural Jefferson County led to a methamphetamine arrest and the discovery of additional drugs, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies say the incident occurred in the early morning hours of October 4 along Illinois Highway 142 near Gothic Lane. A sheriff’s deputy stopped a red Chevy truck for a traffic violation when a routine check revealed the passenger, 53-year-old Boren R. Johnson of Mt. Vernon, was wanted in Franklin County for failure to appear on an illegal drug charge.

According to authorities, Johnson was taken into custody on the outstanding warrant. During a subsequent search of the vehicle, deputies allegedly discovered illegal drugs, which were seized as evidence.

Johnson was arrested on charges of illegal possession of methamphetamine in addition to the existing Franklin County warrant. He was transported to the Jefferson County Jail, where he awaits a pretrial detention hearing.

Officials noted that Johnson is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
