Jasper, Indiana — A late-night traffic stop on a snow-covered Dubois County road led to two arrests and multiple felony drug charges, according to Indiana State Police.

The incident occurred around 11:12 p.m. Wednesday when a state trooper discovered a silver 2013 Kia stuck in the snow on a county road near Jasper. Troopers assisted the occupants and identified the driver as Darlene R. Jacobsen, 48, of Jasper, and the passenger as Darrel R. Harris, 35, of Huntingburg, police said.

According to Indiana State Police, troopers observed indicators of alleged criminal activity during the encounter. A Dubois County Sheriff’s Office K-9 was requested, and the dog conducted an open-air sniff of the vehicle, giving a positive alert for the presence of narcotics.

Following the alert, officers searched the area and reportedly located a bag containing approximately 33.5 grams of suspected methamphetamine. Police also reported that Jacobsen showed signs of impairment at the scene.

Jacobsen was transported to Deaconess Memorial Medical Center in Jasper for a chemical test before being booked into the Dubois County Jail. Harris was also taken to the Dubois County Jail. Both were being held pending court proceedings.

Harris faces preliminary charges of Level 2 felony dealing methamphetamine, Level 3 felony possession of methamphetamine, Class B misdemeanor visiting a common nuisance, and Class C misdemeanor possession of paraphernalia.

Jacobsen is preliminarily charged with Level 2 felony dealing methamphetamine, Level 3 felony possession of methamphetamine, Level 6 felony maintaining a common nuisance, Class A misdemeanor operating while intoxicated, and Class C misdemeanor possession of paraphernalia.

The investigation involved Indiana State Police troopers and the Dubois County Sheriff’s Office. All suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
