Joplin, MO – An arrest has been made in connection with property damage at the Jasper County Courts Building after surveillance footage captured suspects driving go-karts outside the courthouse late last year.

According to the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred on Monday, December 16, at the courts building located at 633 S. Pearl Avenue in Joplin. Investigators say two suspects were seen operating go-karts on the concrete area near the main entrance, allegedly drifting and leaving visible damage to the structure.

Authorities reported that the go-karts caused dents and scratches to the bases of at least six supporting pillars outside the courthouse. The estimated cost of repairs is $12,860, according to the sheriff’s office.

One suspect was identified as Dylan M. Aleman, 23, of Joplin. Deputies say Aleman was arrested at his residence on Wednesday, January 14, and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center in Carthage.

According to officials, Aleman has been charged with Property Damage in the First Degree. A warrant was issued following the submission of formal charges. The sheriff’s office emphasized that the investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges or suspects may still be identified.

The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office thanked the community for its continued support and encouraged anyone with further information related to the incident to contact Detective Samuel Sarmiento at (417) 358-8177, Ext. 1266.

Authorities have not released further details about the second suspect seen in the surveillance footage.
