DeMotte, IN – Residents in DeMotte and surrounding Jasper County communities are invited to take part in a holiday food-drive event this Saturday as the Keener Township Volunteer Fire Department hosts its annual Fill-A-Truck collection at Strack’s parking lot.

According to the Keener Township Volunteer Fire Department, the event is scheduled for Saturday, November 22, 2025, running from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Firefighters will have one of their engines parked near the store entrance, where volunteers will help community members load the truck with non-perishable food items.

The donations collected will support the Good Neighbor Food Pantry, a local organization serving families in need throughout DeMotte and northern Jasper County. Fire officials noted that all donations stay within the community and will help support households during the busy holiday season, a time when food pantries often see demand increase.

The department encouraged residents to consider bringing canned vegetables, soups, pasta, rice, peanut butter, cereal, boxed meals, and other shelf-stable items. No refrigerated or frozen goods will be accepted.

Community food-drive events like Fill-A-Truck have become a long-standing tradition for many volunteer departments across Indiana, offering a direct way for residents to support neighbors who may be struggling. The Keener Township Volunteer Fire Department said the hope is to fully pack the truck by the end of the collection window.

Organizers emphasized that even one donated item can make a difference for a local family heading into the Thanksgiving week.

Residents planning to attend can visit Strack & Van Til’s DeMotte location and look for the parked fire engine and volunteers stationed in front.
