According to the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy attempted a traffic stop around 11:20 p.m. CST on State Road 49 near County Road 900 North in Wheatfield on February 14. The driver, later identified as 23-year-old Tucker Ellis of Rensselaer, allegedly failed to stop and led deputies on a pursuit that reportedly exceeded 100 mph.

The DeMotte Police Department and Indiana State Police assisted in the chase.

Authorities said that approximately 35 minutes into the pursuit, Ellis allegedly attempted to strike deputies with his vehicle. Two deputies discharged their firearms. Ellis later stopped the vehicle and fled on foot before being apprehended by the Jasper County Sheriff’s Tactical Team at his residence.

Officials said Ellis sustained a single gunshot wound to his hand and was transported for medical treatment. Criminal charges against him are pending.

Additionally, 22-year-old Benjamin Wing was taken into custody at Ellis’ residence. Charges against Wing are also pending.
