Jasper County, IN: Chicago Man Wanted for Armed Robbery Taken Into Custody in Rensselaer

Rensselaer, IN – A Chicago man wanted on multiple warrants, including charges tied to armed robbery and escape, was taken into custody Friday morning during a coordinated law enforcement operation in Rensselaer, according to the Rensselaer Police Department.

Police said the arrest occurred on December 5, 2025, at a residence in the 400 block of North McKinley following joint efforts involving the Rensselaer Police Department, Jasper County Sheriff’s Department, and the U.S. Marshals Service. The individual, identified as 21-year-old Devaughn Credit of Chicago, had several outstanding warrants and was also a suspect in an active investigation within Rensselaer.

Investigators maintained surveillance on the residence before obtaining a search warrant. The Jasper County Sheriff’s Tactical Squad executed the warrant at approximately 6 a.m. Credit was found inside the home and taken into custody without incident. Police said several other individuals inside the residence were also detained.

Credit was transported to the Jasper County Jail, where he will remain pending formal charges to be filed by the Prosecutor’s Office.

Authorities have not yet released additional details regarding the ongoing investigation or the identity and circumstances of the other individuals detained during the operation. Police indicated that updated information will be provided once charging documents are finalized.

The arrest adds to a series of recent multi-agency collaborations in Jasper County, where local police routinely work with federal authorities to locate individuals wanted on violent felony charges.
