Wheatfield, Indiana – A vehicle pursuit in Jasper County ended with a pickup truck overturned in a ditch Wednesday morning.

According to the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, detectives with the Drug Interdiction and Criminal Investigations divisions identified 47-year-old William S. Johnson of Wheatfield, who allegedly had active felony arrest warrants.

At approximately 11:32 a.m. CST Wednesday, detectives approached Johnson while he was seated inside a 1997 Chevrolet pickup truck in the Wheatfield area. Authorities said Johnson allegedly fled, prompting deputies to initiate a pursuit.

The pursuit lasted about nine minutes, with speeds reaching nearly 100 miles per hour. Investigators said the chase ended when Johnson drove off the roadway and rolled into a ditch at the intersection of County Road 1300 North and County Road 100 West, just north of Wheatfield.

Johnson was transported to a local hospital for treatment of what were described as minor injuries. Officials later confirmed he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

At the time of the incident, Johnson allegedly had active warrants for unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, resisting law enforcement in a motor vehicle, possession of marijuana and reckless driving. Additional charges are pending.

No officers or members of the public were injured. Indiana State Police assisted with the pursuit.

All charges are allegations, and Johnson is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
