DeMotte, Indiana – A reported stolen vehicle case took an unexpected turn within minutes early Monday when deputies arrested the very person accused of taking the van.
According to the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, the incident began around 1:58 a.m. when a caller reported their van had just been stolen in DeMotte. The victim identified 40-year-old Kristen Huff of Wheatfield as the suspect.
Deputies quickly responded to Huff’s last known address in Wheatfield and located the vehicle in the driveway. When officers made contact, Huff claimed ownership of the van but was unable to provide proof.
She was taken into custody without incident and charged with theft of a motor vehicle, a Level 6 felony in Indiana. Authorities also discovered Huff had active warrants out of Porter County.
Huff is currently being held at the Jasper County Jail on a $10,000 surety bond or $1,000 cash bond.
The case remains under investigation, and additional details could be released.
