Jacksonville, Fla. – Afternoon thunderstorms could slow commutes and flood low-lying streets across northeast Florida Friday, with the strongest storms expected to arrive after 4 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service in Jacksonville, showers and storms will continue into Friday night with the potential for heavy rainfall. While most areas will see less than a half-inch, isolated downpours could bring higher totals and brief street flooding. Winds will remain light, but storms may bring gusty conditions in localized areas.

Saturday will bring more of the same, with showers and thunderstorms likely after 2 p.m. Temperatures will stay in the mid-80s, but the combination of rain and humidity could push heat indices higher. Breezy conditions may also develop, especially along the St. Johns River and coastal areas.

Travelers on I-95 and U.S. 1 should plan for reduced visibility in heavy rain and ponding on roads during peak storm hours Friday evening and Saturday afternoon. Outdoor plans, including high school football games and weekend festivals, could be disrupted by lightning and downpours.

Thunderstorm chances taper somewhat Sunday and Monday but remain in place through early next week, keeping the pattern unsettled. More widespread showers could return by midweek.
