Jacksonville, Florida – A renewed threat of freezing temperatures is setting up for northeast Florida and southeast Georgia late Sunday night, putting plants, pets, and vulnerable populations at risk across the Jacksonville metro and surrounding communities.

According to the National Weather Service in Jacksonville, a Freeze Watch remains in effect from late Sunday night through Monday morning for much of northeast Florida and adjacent coastal and inland areas of southeast Georgia. Temperatures could fall as low as 28 degrees near the coast, with inland locations potentially dropping into the lower to mid-20s before sunrise Monday.

The watch includes Duval, St. Johns, Nassau, Flagler, Clay, Putnam, Alachua, Marion, Columbia, and Suwannee counties, along with coastal and inland sections of Camden, Glynn, Ware, Charlton, Coffee, and Atkinson counties in Georgia. In the Jacksonville area, neighborhoods from Riverside and San Marco to Arlington and Oceanway could see their coldest conditions just after daybreak. Saint Augustine, Palm Coast, Fernandina Beach, and inland communities such as Lake City, Gainesville, and Ocala are also at risk.

A Freeze Warning remains in effect early Saturday morning for parts of north Florida and south Georgia, highlighting how persistent this cold pattern has become. Residents are urged to protect tender vegetation, bring pets indoors, and check on elderly neighbors and those without adequate shelter.

The National Weather Service notes that additional Freeze Warnings may be issued as confidence increases. Cold conditions are expected to ease later Monday morning, but updates should be monitored closely through the weekend.
