JACKSONVILLE, N.C. – Eastern North Carolina will stay hot through Saturday before a shift to stormier, cooler conditions arrives by the end of the weekend. Afternoon highs are expected to top out near 90 degrees both Friday and Saturday, making it feel more like midsummer than early September.

According to the National Weather Service office in Morehead City, Sunday will bring a better chance for scattered showers and thunderstorms as a cold front slides across the region. Highs will fall back into the mid-80s, ending the streak of above-normal temperatures.

Communities from Jacksonville to New Bern and Greenville should expect mostly sunny skies and dry weather to finish the workweek. Beachgoers heading to Emerald Isle and Atlantic Beach will enjoy hot, breezy afternoons, but rip current risks could increase with Sunday’s unsettled weather.

Travelers are urged to plan around Sunday’s storms, which could briefly reduce visibility and create ponding on roads. Residents are encouraged to stay weather aware, especially if outdoor plans extend into the afternoon and evening hours.

Showers may linger into early next week, with conditions stabilizing by midweek.
