Jacksonville, Fla. – Northeast Florida heads into the first weekend of October with dangerous surf, strong rip currents, and localized coastal flooding. Beachgoers and drivers near Highway A1A should plan for hazardous conditions that could extend through Saturday evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Jacksonville, a High Surf Advisory remains in effect until 5 a.m. Sunday, with breaking waves reaching five to eight feet. A Coastal Flood Advisory is also in place through 8 p.m. Saturday, warning of water pushing inland across low-lying coastal roads and neighborhoods.

The most immediate concern is public safety along area beaches. Strong rip currents can sweep even experienced swimmers away from shore. Officials urge residents and visitors to stay out of the water and avoid flooded roadways. Drivers should allow extra time, never cross barricades, and keep clear of standing water that may conceal road damage.

Winds will stay gusty from the northeast, adding to beach erosion risks and rough seas offshore. Small craft operators should remain in port until conditions improve. While inland areas of Jacksonville will see scattered thunderstorms, the heaviest coastal impacts will be felt along Duval, Nassau, and Camden counties.

Looking ahead, the first full weekend of October will be breezy and unsettled but not a total washout. Sunshine breaks return early next week, offering better conditions for fall outdoor plans, including Halloween decorating and early festivals.
