JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Residents across northeast Florida will battle extreme heat Saturday before storms bring heavy rain and possible flooding into the evening. A heat advisory is in effect with temperatures climbing to the mid-90s and a heat index soaring as high as 109 degrees.
According to the National Weather Service in Jacksonville, showers and thunderstorms are expected after 5 p.m. Saturday, with some capable of producing heavy rainfall. Rainfall amounts could exceed a half inch in localized areas, raising the risk of street flooding. Winds will remain light until storms develop, with stronger gusts possible along the coast and near heavier cells.
Saturday night could see the heaviest downpours, especially after 8 p.m., with thunderstorms continuing into early Sunday morning. Showers remain likely Sunday with highs near 90, before storms taper off overnight. By Monday, another round of afternoon thunderstorms is possible, though conditions should begin to dry out midweek.
Officials urge residents to avoid prolonged time outdoors during peak heat hours, stay hydrated, and remain alert for sudden downpours that may cause hazardous driving conditions.
More storms are possible into Tuesday, keeping northeast Florida unsettled until midweek when drier skies return.
