The National Weather Service has issued a Dense Fog Advisory for the Jacksonville area through mid-morning. Visibility may fall to one-quarter mile or less, especially along I-95, I-10, and surface streets near rivers and marshes. School drop-offs and early commutes require extra patience today.
Fog forms easily under calm winds and high humidity, and conditions may deteriorate quickly before sunrise. Some improvement is expected after mid-morning as sunshine strengthens. Until then, slow down, use low-beam headlights, and leave extra following distance.
Once fog lifts, today turns noticeably warm for early January. Afternoon highs climb into the mid-70s, well above average for winter. To be fair, the warmth may feel welcome, but it also sets up a pattern of recurring fog during early mornings this week.
Patchy fog may return late tonight and again Wednesday morning. Daytime conditions stay mostly sunny and warm through Thursday, with highs in the mid to upper 70s. By the weekend, clouds increase and rain chances creep back into the picture, though no cold snap is expected locally.
Nationally, winter weather continues hammering areas far north of Florida, while the Southeast rides a mild January 2026 pattern. Even so, rapid visibility drops can be just as disruptive as snow when drivers are caught off guard.
Plan extra time this morning, especially near bridges and low-lying roads. Conditions should steadily improve after sunrise.
