Florida – Powerful waves are already pounding Northeast Florida beaches this morning, with dangerous rip currents forming that can pull swimmers offshore within seconds. Conditions are worsening quickly along the Jacksonville coastline.
According to the National Weather Service in Jacksonville, a high rip current risk is in effect through Monday evening, while a High Surf Advisory begins by 2 p.m. and continues until 5 a.m. Monday. Breaking waves are expected to build between 5 and 7 feet this afternoon, increasing to 8 to 10 feet tonight and into early week.
Along Jacksonville Beach, Neptune Beach, and Atlantic Beach, strong northeast winds around 17 to 23 mph, with gusts near 30 mph, are driving rough surf. Visibility may remain good, but ocean conditions are dangerous even for experienced swimmers. Lifeguards strongly advise staying out of the water.
Drivers along A1A and coastal stretches near I-95 should expect blowing sand and reduced visibility at times. Beach erosion is also possible, especially during high tide cycles.
Conditions gradually improve into Monday, though a 30% chance of showers develops by afternoon with highs near 76°F. Winds ease slightly but remain breezy along the coast.
By Tuesday, a warmer and more typical spring pattern returns, with highs near 79°F and only isolated shower chances. By Wednesday, temperatures climb to around 82°F with partial sunshine and calmer conditions.
Avoid entering the water during this high-risk period. If caught in a rip current, float and swim parallel to shore.
