Jacksonville, FL – Urban flooding, road ponding, and rising creeks are possible across northeast Florida and southeast Georgia today as a flood watch remains in effect through Sunday evening. The National Weather Service warns that some areas could receive between a half inch and nearly two inches of rain by nightfall.

According to the National Weather Service in Jacksonville, the flood watch covers portions of Baker, Duval, Nassau, and Columbia counties in Florida and stretches northward into Appling, Glynn, and Camden counties in southeast Georgia. Areas most at risk include Jacksonville, Amelia City, Brunswick, St. Marys, Waycross, and St. Simons Island.

Local storms are expected to develop throughout the day, with the heaviest rain likely arriving between noon and 6 p.m. Drivers should avoid low-lying roads, especially in urban areas with poor drainage. Flash flooding in flood-prone spots could occur quickly, particularly where heavy rainfall overlaps with saturated ground from previous storms.

Residents are urged to monitor updates and remain alert for potential flood warnings. Those in vulnerable areas should prepare to act quickly if water begins rising.

Warnings may be extended into Monday depending on rainfall totals and storm development.
