Jackson, WY – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect across western Wyoming through 5 p.m. Monday as steady snow and strong winds continue to create difficult travel conditions in the region’s mountain ranges.

According to the National Weather Service in Riverton, the advisory covers the Teton and Gros Ventre Mountains, the Wind River Mountains West and the Salt River and Wyoming Ranges. Snow will continue through the morning and early afternoon, with additional accumulations of up to 6 inches in most areas and 8 to 10 inches possible along higher, west-facing peaks.

Winds may gust as high as 35 mph at times, which could reduce visibility and create pockets of blowing and drifting snow along exposed terrain. The NWS warns that travel may be challenging on key routes, especially during the Monday morning commute over Teton Pass, Togwotee Pass and Salt River Pass. Drivers should anticipate slick surfaces, reduced visibility and slower travel.

The combination of new snowfall and gusty winds may also cause rapidly changing conditions in mountain corridors, especially above 7,000 feet. Backcountry users should be prepared for cold, windy and snowy weather through the afternoon.

The NWS urges motorists to slow down and use caution while traveling, particularly on steep grades and through high-elevation passes. Wyoming road condition updates are available at WyoRoad.info, and detailed snowfall forecast graphics are posted on Weather.gov/RIW/Winter.

Snow is expected to taper off later today as the system exits the region, though lingering impacts may continue into the evening.
