Jackson, TN – This week, Tennessee is gearing up for extreme heat as a severe heatwave targets Jackson and nearby areas. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Memphis has issued a warning, forecasting heat index values that could surpass 105 degrees, creating potentially dangerous conditions for residents.
According to the NWS, the heatwave is expected to peak by Thursday, with Jackson and surrounding regions experiencing some of the highest temperatures in the state. Heat indices could climb to as high as 110 degrees, significantly increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses, particularly for those working outdoors or without adequate cooling.
Residents of Jackson are urged to take necessary precautions, such as staying indoors during the hottest parts of the day, staying hydrated, and checking on neighbors, particularly the elderly and those with health conditions. The NWS has also noted that the intense heat could strain the local power grid, possibly leading to power outages.
