Jackson, MS – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Jackson has issued an updated severe weather outlook for the weekend, warning that damaging winds up to 60 mph may impact portions of Mississippi late Saturday afternoon into Saturday night.

According to the NWS, a Level 2 (Slight) risk covers parts of northwestern Mississippi, including areas near Greenville, Cleveland, and Clarksdale, where severe thunderstorms are possible. The rest of central Mississippi, including Jackson, Vicksburg, and Hattiesburg, remains under a Level 1 (Marginal) risk for isolated strong storms and gusty winds.

Forecasters emphasize that damaging wind gusts will be the primary threat, though an isolated tornado or small hail event cannot be ruled out. Residents are encouraged to monitor weather alerts closely, as the timing and intensity of storms could change as the system develops.

The NWS advises Mississippians to have multiple ways to receive weather warnings, especially during overnight hours when conditions could worsen. Updated forecasts will be issued as the weekend approaches.

This system follows a stretch of warm, humid air across the region, setting the stage for potentially strong thunderstorms by late Saturday.
