Jackson, MS – Morning commuters across central and southern Mississippi are being urged to drive with caution today as dense fog blankets much of the region, reducing visibility to as low as a quarter-mile in some areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, an elevated fog threat (Level 2) is in effect for areas south of Interstate 20, including Brookhaven, Natchez, and Hattiesburg, through 10 a.m. Wednesday. Drivers in the limited threat (Level 1) zone northward toward Greenwood and Columbus may also experience patchy fog with visibility down to a half-mile.

Motorists are advised to use low beams, allow extra following distance, and plan for additional travel time during their morning commute.

The weather service also notes scattered showers across the state today, expected to taper off by Wednesday afternoon. A weak cold front will follow, bringing drier and cooler conditions later in the week.

Forecast highs range from the upper 80s to low 90s today, cooling to mid-80s by Friday, with morning lows dipping into the 50s and low 60s.

This pattern marks a transition toward a more comfortable fall weather setup heading into the weekend.
