JACKSON, Miss. – Mississippi residents will finally catch a break from the heat as cooler mornings and lower humidity spread across the state through early next week. Morning temperatures will dip into the 60s as soon as Friday, with daytime highs falling below 90 in many areas by midweek.
According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, the change begins Thursday as drier air moves into north Mississippi and Arkansas, expanding statewide by Friday. The most noticeable relief will come early next week when highs peak in the mid-to-upper 80s for much of central and northern Mississippi.
Jackson, Greenwood, and Vicksburg can expect highs near 87 to 89 degrees by Tuesday, while towns like Brookhaven and Natchez may hold closer to the upper 80s. Overnight lows in many communities, including Starkville and Meridian, will drop to the upper 60s, a welcome shift after weeks of sticky nights in the 70s.
While most of the state will see calmer conditions, isolated storms remain possible in south and east Mississippi, particularly near Hattiesburg and Meridian. Forecasters advise monitoring for brief downpours but say widespread severe weather is unlikely.
Temperatures should remain below 90 through at least Thursday, with additional updates possible if storms linger.
