Jackson, MS – A wet week is ahead for central and southern Mississippi as several weather systems bring widespread rainfall to the region, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Jackson. Rainfall totals between 1 and 4 inches are expected through the end of the week, with the highest amounts forecast south of the Interstate 20 corridor.

Forecasters say measurable rain will occur on multiple days as repeated disturbances move across the state. According to the NWS, communities including Hattiesburg, Laurel, Magee, and Monticello are currently positioned for the greatest rainfall, with totals near 3–4 inches possible by week’s end.

Areas farther north, including Jackson, Vicksburg, Greenville, Yazoo City, and Columbus, can expect generally 0.5 to 2 inches, depending on band placement and timing of individual systems. While rain will be steady at times, the NWS does not anticipate flooding at this point, citing relatively dry ground conditions and the spread-out timing of precipitation.

The rain pattern is expected to continue through several midweek periods before gradually tapering later in the week. Cloud cover and rain-cooled air will keep temperatures on the cooler side, with highs mostly in the 50s and 60s for central Mississippi.

Drivers should be prepared for reduced visibility during heavier showers and ponding in low-lying or poorly drained locations, especially south of I-20 where the heaviest totals are expected
