A blanket of dense fog has settled across central Mississippi early this morning, cloaking highways and rural backroads in a gray haze that cuts visibility to less than a quarter mile in spots. Headlights pierce the mist near Jackson, where calm winds and 97% humidity have created prime conditions for slick, hazy commutes.

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, a Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 9 a.m. CST, impacting drivers from Greenville to Hattiesburg and into parts of northeast Louisiana and southeast Arkansas. Motorists are urged to slow down, use headlights, and leave extra distance between vehicles, especially along I-20, US-49, and Route 55 where visibility can drop suddenly.

By late morning, skies should begin to lift as fog gives way to mild, cloudy air with highs near 61°F. Spotty showers remain possible through midday before clearing tonight with lows in the low 40s. Sunshine returns Monday and Tuesday, bringing a welcome warmup with highs in the mid-50s to upper 50s.

Looking further ahead, a late-week system could reintroduce rain chances by Thursday, followed by a cooler, drier stretch moving into mid-December. The pattern may pave the way for a colder blast sweeping down from the Midwest by December 11–17, when forecasters expect a sharper drop in temperatures across the South.

Five-Day Outlook (Jackson, MS):

  • Monday: Mostly sunny, high 52°F, low 31°F.
  • Tuesday: Sunny, high 57°F, low 39°F.
  • Wednesday: Sunny, high 65°F, low 48°F.
  • Thursday: Chance of rain, high 59°F, low 43°F.
  • Friday: Mostly clear, cooler, high 52°F.
