Jackson, MS – The National Weather Service in Jackson warns Mississippi residents to brace for a hard freeze Monday night into early Tuesday, following an earlier round of subfreezing temperatures expected Sunday night.

According to the Weather Service, the first freeze threat arrives late Sunday night through Monday morning, with low temperatures near or below freezing in northern and central areas. The most severe cold will follow Monday night into Tuesday morning, when a significant (Level 3) freeze is forecast across much of central and southern Mississippi, including Jackson, Meridian, Vicksburg, and Brookhaven.

Temperatures are expected to fall below 28°F for several hours, posing a risk of significant damage to unprotected vegetation and marking one of the earliest widespread freezes of the season. Northern counties including Greenville, Greenwood, and Yazoo City may see slightly lighter impacts in the elevated (Level 2) range but are still expected to experience below-freezing conditions for extended periods.

Forecasters advise covering outdoor plants, disconnecting garden hoses, and protecting pets and pipes ahead of the cold blast. The freeze threat follows a foggy Saturday morning, with visibility expected to improve before temperatures plunge starting Sunday evening.
