Jackson, MS – The National Weather Service in Jackson warns that severe thunderstorms are expected to develop tonight as a cold front moves across Mississippi, bringing the potential for damaging winds up to 60 mph and a few brief tornadoes.

The strongest storms are expected between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m., moving from west to east across the region. Areas including Vicksburg, Jackson, Meridian, and Hattiesburg are all under a Slight Risk (Level 2 of 5) for severe weather.

Residents are urged to have multiple ways to receive weather warnings, especially since storms will occur overnight. The NWS recommends using NOAA Weather Radio, Wireless Emergency Alerts, or local media to stay informed.

While the storms will move quickly, the NWS cautions that brief tornadoes and strong wind gusts could cause localized damage and power outages.
