Jackson, Mississippi — Much cooler air has settled across central Mississippi on Friday following a cold front, with afternoon high temperatures expected to remain mostly in the lower to mid-50s.
According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, the cold front moved through the region Thursday, ushering in noticeably cooler conditions under sunny skies. High temperatures Friday are forecast to struggle to climb out of the 50s across much of the state.
In the Jackson metro area, highs are expected to reach around 54 degrees. Temperatures elsewhere will vary slightly, with Greenwood and Greenville near 50 degrees, Vicksburg around 54, Meridian near 54, and Hattiesburg and Natchez reaching the upper 50s. Yazoo City is forecast to top out near 51 degrees.
Despite the cooler temperatures, skies are expected to remain mostly clear throughout the day, providing dry and calm conditions across the region. Winds will be lighter than in recent days, contributing to a more stable weather pattern.
Forecasters noted that the cooler air is typical for late December and marks a noticeable change from the warmer conditions earlier in the week. No precipitation is expected Friday, and road conditions are anticipated to remain dry.
The National Weather Service said temperatures will gradually moderate over the coming days, though no rapid warm-up is expected. Overnight lows Friday night are forecast to dip into the 30s and lower 40s, particularly in rural areas.
Residents are advised to dress accordingly for the cooler weather, especially during the morning and evening hours. Students, commuters, and outdoor workers may notice the biggest impact early Friday before temperatures peak during the afternoon.
