Jackson, MS – Fall may be on the calendar, but Mississippi residents won’t be feeling it this week. The National Weather Service in Jackson reported that hot and dry conditions will persist across the state today and are likely to continue through the coming week.
According to the National Weather Service, high temperatures will climb into the low to mid-90s in cities including Jackson, Vicksburg, Greenville, and Meridian. Despite the heat, skies will remain mostly clear with little chance of rain, keeping conditions dry for much of central and southern Mississippi.
The agency’s 6-to-10-day temperature outlook shows above-normal temperatures stretching across the Southeast, with Mississippi sitting firmly in the warmer-than-average zone. That means summer-like weather will linger well into mid-September, delaying any fall relief residents may be waiting for.
Forecasters caution that the extended stretch of hot and dry conditions could worsen drought concerns in some areas, particularly if rainfall continues to remain scarce. Residents are encouraged to stay hydrated, limit time outdoors during peak afternoon heat, and continue monitoring official updates from the National Weather Service.
