Jackson, Miss. – Much of Mississippi will bake under dangerous heat this afternoon and again on Saturday, with heat indices climbing between 105 and 110 degrees. The National Weather Service warns the combination of mid-90s temperatures and high humidity will increase the risk of heat exhaustion, particularly for those spending extended time outdoors.

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, an Elevated Level 2 heat risk covers nearly the entire state from Vicksburg to Meridian and north toward Greenwood and Columbus. Residents are urged to limit strenuous outdoor work during peak heating hours, stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable neighbors.

The oppressive heat will be felt most in the afternoon and early evening hours. Even overnight, temperatures will remain warm, offering little relief. Officials remind residents to never leave children or pets in vehicles, even for a short period, as interior temperatures can rise rapidly.

The heat risk is expected to persist into Saturday evening before a slight drop in temperatures early next week. Further advisories could be issued if conditions worsen.
