Jackson, Mississippi – Storm chances are ramping up across Mississippi, with the most widespread rain expected to arrive by Saturday and impact weekend plans statewide.

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, scattered showers and thunderstorms will remain limited early, but coverage increases late Thursday into Friday. Rain chances climb sharply by Saturday, with probabilities reaching 70% to 80% across much of central and southern Mississippi.

Cities including Jackson, Vicksburg, Meridian, and Hattiesburg could see multiple rounds of rain, with rainfall totals generally between 0.2 and 0.5 inches through the period. Locally higher amounts are possible where storms repeatedly track over the same areas.

While severe weather is not the primary concern at this time, heavier downpours could briefly reduce visibility and lead to minor ponding on roadways, especially in low-lying or poorly drained areas.

Drivers should remain cautious during periods of heavier rain, and residents are encouraged to monitor updates as the weekend system approaches.

Drier and cooler conditions are expected to return by early next week, offering a break after several days of unsettled weather.
