Jackson, Mississippi – Drivers across southwest Mississippi and northeast Louisiana face hazardous travel conditions early this morning as thick fog settles over the region, slashing visibility to less than a quarter mile in many areas. According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, a Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 9 a.m., impacting key corridors like US 61, US 84, and local roads in Adams, Franklin, Copiah, and Lincoln counties, as well as Catahoula, Concordia, and Tensas parishes in Louisiana.

Law enforcement warns commuters and early-morning travelers to expect near-zero visibility in spots, especially near rivers, low-lying valleys, and open fields. Cities including Natchez, Brookhaven, Vidalia, and Port Gibson are among those likely to see the thickest fog through daybreak. Motorists are urged to slow down, use headlights—even after sunrise—and leave extra space between vehicles. Several area school districts have announced delayed bus routes, while local emergency managers remind residents to avoid unnecessary travel until fog lifts.

Conditions should improve by late morning as temperatures rise, but the National Weather Service cautions that updates or extended advisories are possible if visibility does not rebound quickly.
