Jackson, Ky. – A stretch of humid summer air will break early next week, but first eastern Kentucky faces a weekend of scattered showers and thunderstorms, with the highest risk near the Virginia border.

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, storm chances increase Saturday with a 30–60% likelihood of rain, particularly in counties along the southeast border. Sunday will bring another round of scattered storms under partly cloudy skies, though coverage is expected to remain uneven across the region.

Daytime highs will push into the upper 80s through Sunday, with muggy conditions making it feel warmer. Overnight lows in the 60s will offer little relief from the humidity. Motorists should watch for slick roads during heavier downpours, while outdoor plans may need quick adjustments due to sudden lightning.

By Monday, a cold front ushers in drier, cooler air. Highs will fall back into the mid-70s to low 80s, and humidity will drop noticeably, bringing a stretch of more comfortable weather into midweek.

Residents should monitor local alerts through the weekend, as additional advisories may be issued if storms strengthen.
