Jackson, KY – Drivers across eastern Kentucky are waking up to dense valley fog Thursday morning, with visibility dropping below a quarter mile in some areas, especially along KY-15 and in the deeper valleys of Breathitt and Floyd counties. Conditions will gradually clear by mid-morning, but scattered thunderstorms are expected to return by late afternoon and into the evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, clear skies overnight combined with calm winds and lingering moisture helped fog develop rapidly, particularly in low-lying areas. Visibility remains extremely limited before 9 a.m. in counties including Wolfe, Owsley, and Lee. By Thursday afternoon, isolated storms could pop up across the region, mainly after 4 p.m., bringing lightning, gusty winds, and brief downpours.

Thursday: Areas of dense fog until 10 a.m., then a slight chance of storms after 4 p.m. High near 86°F.
Thursday Night: Patchy fog returns. Mostly cloudy, low near 65°F.
Friday: Sunny with highs in the upper 80s. Storms possible by late afternoon.
Saturday: Dry and sunny with highs near 89°F.
Sunday: Continued sunny and warm. Highs stay near 89°F.

While no severe storms are expected, isolated cells may cause localized travel delays during the afternoon and early evening commute. Drivers should use caution early Thursday and again late Friday due to potential low visibility and wet roads.

Thunderstorm chances linger daily through early next week. Expect continued updates if watches or warnings are issued.
