Jackson, KY – Widespread rain is expected to move into eastern Kentucky tonight and continue through Sunday, with precipitation chances climbing as high as 90 percent along key corridors including Kentucky Route 15.
According to the US National Weather Service in Jackson, high pressure will provide one final dry and mild day before low pressure spreads soaking rainfall across the region overnight. Rain chances increase from around 10 percent today to near 90 percent tonight before gradually tapering late Sunday.
Sunday highs are forecast between 47 and 52 degrees, with overnight lows dipping into the mid-30s to around 40 degrees. While rainfall may be steady at times, forecasters say no significant flooding is currently expected.
Communities including London along Interstate 75, Hazard near KY-80, and Pikeville along U.S. 23 could experience periods of reduced visibility and wet pavement through Sunday afternoon.
A drying trend is expected to begin Monday, with partly cloudy and milder conditions developing for Washington’s Birthday. Highs Monday are projected between 57 and 63 degrees.
Temperatures are forecast to climb even higher by midweek, reaching 62 to 67 degrees Tuesday and potentially 63 to 69 degrees Wednesday as breezy conditions develop.
The warming pattern represents above-normal temperatures for mid-February across eastern Kentucky.
Commuters traveling tonight and early Sunday should allow extra time on area highways before quieter and warmer weather settles in next week.
