Jackson, KY – Rain will transition to snow overnight across eastern Kentucky, with light accumulations possible Sunday that could create slick stretches along KY-15 and Interstate 75.
According to the US National Weather Service in Jackson, showers taper off this morning but return later this evening. Rain is expected to change to a rain-snow mix overnight before becoming all snow Sunday.
High temperatures Saturday are forecast in the upper 40s to upper 50s before dropping into the 20s overnight. Sunday highs will remain in the low to upper 30s, allowing snow showers to persist through much of the day. Snow showers may linger into Monday as colder air settles into the region.
While widespread heavy snowfall is not expected, light accumulations are possible, especially on grassy and elevated surfaces. Untreated roads could become slick during periods of steadier snow, particularly Sunday morning and Sunday night.
Drivers along I-75 near London and US-23 near Pikeville should prepare for changing road conditions as temperatures fall below freezing.
Wind chills will dip into the teens Sunday night, increasing the chance for refreeze on wet surfaces.
A warming trend is expected to begin Tuesday, continuing through much of next week. More active weather may return toward the end of next week.
Residents are encouraged to monitor forecast updates for any advisories as precipitation transitions to snow.
