Jackson, KY – Residents across eastern Kentucky should prepare for a round of showers and thunderstorms Friday afternoon and evening as a cold front sweeps through the region, according to the National Weather Service in Jackson.
Storms are expected to begin between noon and 3 p.m. in western parts of the region before moving eastward through 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. across cities like Hazard, Pikeville, and Jackson. A few storms could become strong to severe, bringing damaging wind gusts and brief heavy rainfall.
While the primary threat will be gusty winds outside of storms, the NWS cautions that any isolated strong storm could produce localized power outages or tree damage. Rain is expected to clear from west to east by late evening as cooler and drier air settles in behind the front.
Drivers are urged to use caution on wet roads and monitor for rapidly changing weather conditions this afternoon. Have multiple ways to receive weather alerts and stay updated as storms move across the region.
