Jackson, Kentucky – Strong to severe thunderstorms could develop across eastern Kentucky late Sunday night into early Monday as a powerful cold front moves through the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, a line of storms may form along the front and move through parts of the state overnight.
Forecasters say the primary threat will be damaging straight-line winds, which could occur as storms organize into a line moving east across Kentucky.
While wind is expected to be the main concern, officials say isolated brief tornadoes cannot be ruled out as the system moves through late Sunday night into the early morning hours Monday.
Outside of thunderstorms, gusty winds are also expected Sunday through Monday, which could create additional impacts across the region.
The National Weather Service says forecast confidence in the setup is currently medium, and residents should continue monitoring updated forecasts as the timing and intensity of storms become clearer.
Because the storms are expected overnight, officials stress the importance of having multiple ways to receive warnings, including weather alerts that can wake you if warnings are issued.
The overnight timing could affect late-night travelers and early Monday commuters across eastern Kentucky, particularly if stronger storms develop along the advancing cold front.
