Jackson, Kentucky – Rain showers will continue across the Jackson area through much of today before tapering off this evening, with snow showers developing late tonight and continuing into early Sunday, potentially impacting travel.
According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, rain will remain the primary precipitation type through the afternoon, with conditions gradually improving early this evening. As colder air moves in overnight, snow showers are expected to develop late tonight, with the potential for brief heavy snow bursts in some locations.
Forecasters say snow showers will taper off early Sunday, though lingering flurries may persist into the morning hours. While widespread accumulation is not expected, brief bursts of heavier snow could cause temporary reductions in visibility and slick spots on untreated roads, especially overnight and near daybreak.
In addition to snow, breezy conditions are expected, with wind gusts between 25 and 35 mph possible from late tonight into Sunday. These gusts may enhance visibility issues during snow showers and contribute to colder wind chills.
High temperatures today are expected to reach the upper 50s to mid-60s, before dropping sharply overnight into the upper 20s to mid-30s. Sunday’s highs will be cooler, generally in the lower to mid-30s, reinforcing the wintry feel early in the day.
Looking ahead, Monday is expected to be mostly sunny, with highs rebounding into the low to mid-40s. Shower chances are forecast to return Tuesday into Wednesday, as another system approaches eastern Kentucky.
The National Weather Service advises motorists to use caution during overnight travel, reduce speeds during snow showers, and remain alert for rapidly changing conditions.
This weather may be especially relevant for overnight workers, early Sunday commuters, and travelers on higher-elevation roads around the Jackson area.
