Jackson, KY – The first snow of the season is expected to arrive across eastern Kentucky tonight as a surge of cold air moves in from the northwest, according to the National Weather Service in Jackson.
Forecasters say rain showers will transition to snow from northwest to southeast between 8 p.m. and midnight Sunday, with snow showers continuing through Monday morning. Additional bursts of light snow may develop Monday afternoon as an upper-level disturbance crosses the region.
Most locations will see less than two inches of accumulation, with the snow primarily sticking to grassy and elevated surfaces. Roads may remain mostly wet, but slick spots could develop early Monday, especially on bridges and untreated areas.
Cities such as Morehead, Mount Sterling, and Hazard could see their first measurable flakes by late evening. The NWS is also monitoring the potential for a narrow band of steadier snow to develop overnight, which could briefly enhance totals in localized areas.
Residents are advised to drive cautiously and prepare for colder, wintry conditions into Monday morning.
